Also, awesome science fact included —> We are literally right next to the Orion Nebula, and by “right next to” I mean ~1300 light years. But that is still pretty close considering the size of our galaxy.

“In “The Neutral Zone,” Lieutenant Data beams three frozen people from the late 21st century back aboard the Enterprise (without telling Picard, for some reason). When the three of them wake up, one of the guycicles starts hassling Picard over the intercom until the captain confronts him and tells him to stop. When the unfrozen douchebag asks why the intercom doesn’t have any special security to keep jackasses like him from using it, Picard says, “Because most people have better judgment.” Picard has clearly never been in a Walmart where the pager phone was carelessly left off the hook waiting for anyone walking by to practice their “Darth Vader sh*tting his pants” routine to the delight of everyone in the store.”

Very funny - though I’m surprised they didn’t pick up on the Deep Space Nine episode where one of the characters is horrified to discover that she is the unwitting “star” of a holodeck porno! Then I figured that, with that technology, that’s probably what they all use it for. (c/f #3)

Great song from one of my favourite new(ish) acts. LOBF says:

And, as per this years hype machine, you should expect close comparisons to the likes of Grimes and Lana Del Ray. But this doesn’t feel like another bloggers track – its wholesome, catchy, and shows a warm vocalist who shouldn’t fall feat to the prey of hipster labels.

Unlike most of the torrents of deadpan, dark, egotistical music that seems to be catching the eyes of the hipster elite in 2013, MØ shows something all the more interesting.

OK, I’ve never told this publicly before, because I’m not mean. I’ll change his name - let’s call him Billy Preston.

I was backstage at Reading ‘94, getting all the bands to sign my special autograph shirt. I must have had 200 signatures from various gigs, etc. Someone, maybe Alex from Blur, is signing it when this little guy (maybe 40, which is old when you’re a teen) nudges me.
‘I’m Billy Preston’, he says.
Um. OK. I smile politely and ignore him.
‘No, you don’t understand. I’m Billy Preston.’
Nice to meet you. I wait for him to go away.
‘I’m Billy Preston.’
Yes, we’ve established that. Who’s Billy Preston?
‘I’m Billy Preston.’
Who the f*** is Billy Preston?
‘From (one hit wonder punk band).’
I look blank.
He looks sad.
I ask if he’d like to sign my shirt.
He looks embarrassed. ‘Must be before your time.’
Must be, I say.
He hands the shirt back.
OMG! There’s the bloke from the Buzzcocks!
Billy groans and slinks away.

When a black bear smashed its way into Joe Azougar’s remote cabin in Northern Ontario, the 30-year-old was sure he was going to die. But as the animal was gnawing on his skull, two campers heard him screaming and rushed to save him. National Post reporter Jake Edmiston spoke to the rare survivor of a bear attack over the phone Monday from his bed at Lady Minto Hospital in Cochrane, Ont.

Q: Can you describe what happened?

A: I ran as fast as I could. But he circled around me and threw me into a ditch. He got his teeth and started peeling the skin off my head. I’m screaming for help. I’m saying, “Oh, dear God, don’t let me die like this. Don’t let my family find me like this.” There was a sudden break, and I got an opportunity to curl into a little ball. But that exposed my shoulder and my armpit. He started chewing at that. just chewing and pulling, chewing and pulling. A couple of times, he tried to turn me onto my back me so he could pull my stomach and guts out. (BROOKE BOWERMAN)

I’d say he’s a lucky man, but he’s not as lucky as someone who’s never been nommed by a bear.
